First part of the year . . .

Well long time no see! I've been a little M.I.A. on here. Not sure why really . . . I guess no news is good news? All in all things have been good for Mr. G man. School is going really good . . . no behaviors issues (does having time out in the office yesterday count?) . . . just behind a little academically.

Here is my attempt at summarizing the first part of 2015. :)

He continues to lose teeth! He has lost 4 total. This one was in a hotel room. It litterally just fell out it was so loose.

Gregory has a new baby sister! His dad and step mom had a baby. He loves being a big brother.

Still going to our favorite place for sorbet, The Gelato Spot.

The super bowl was here this year. We got to go to the NFL experience. It was . . . an experience. Good thing our friend gave us free tickets because it was a little too stimulating for Gregory. We did not last very long.

Dinner with friends . . .

Bed time dictionary reading (lol) . . . .

Getting strep twice in one month . . . first time was all of spring break.

Opening his first savings account . . .

Dying Easter eggs . . .

More In N Out . . .

Field trips to Butterfly Wonderland . . .

Cleaning the table after dinner in your underwear . . .

Big surf . . .

So far its been a great year. I am glad the school year ends this Friday. I'm looking forward to not being on such a schedule, more time with my boy, not packing lunches and just relaxing more. Hope you all have a great summer!!

Bi Anual Metabolic Clinic Appointment

Last week We had Gregory's Bi Annual Metabolic Clinic Appointment. Its a very long appointment. We are seen by the geneticists, the nutritionist, social worker, and psychologist. Everything went pretty smooth all in all. I filled in the psychologist with everything Gregory has been going through. She wants to look at the possibility of Gregory maybe having ADHD. She said you can have this with out the hyper sensitivity part. I'll keep you all posted. Otherwise, he is a happy healthy boy! Praise the Lord!

New school.

Hi all! So A LOT has been going on with Gregory at school. I've been a little too overwhelmed to do a post . . . and new things keep happening. I will try and give you the readers digest version.

Its been a little over a month now . . . Gregory has always struggled with some behavioral issues at school . . . they have just really escalated. After several meetings with his teachers and thearpists . . . trying new things . . . changing his IEP . . . a couple more meetings . . . we have decided he needs a more self contained classroom. His current school does not have something like this. Only 2 other schools in the district offer something like this for Gregory. One just happens to be right down the street from my house and its actually where I went to school K-6th grade. :)

He will be in a classroom with one teacher and two aids. There will only be 10 other kids. It seems like a very contained, positive, strict, structured, fun classroom. They can deal with and accommodate all the things Gregory struggles with. The whole goal is to get them back into a main stream classroom. They get the behaviors under control first and when they are ready they let them back into a mainstream classroom little bits at a time. They also join another kindergarten class to go to specials and lunch with. One of his neighborhood friends is in this classroom. So, he already has a friend. :)

I think it will be really great. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for listening!

Another

I've tried to keep this blog strictly about Gregory. So, I've never thought about writing this. I got to thinking about it and I think its important to write about it. It goes along with what I'm sure a lot of parents of children with Galactosemia go through . . . Do you try for another?

Gregory was our first. We always wanted two kiddos. No more. Tommy and I both know we could not handle more than 2 kids. God gives you what you can handle. He knew we could handle a kid with Galactosemia (plus more) though. :) We wanted our kids to be no less than 3 years apart. We've been trying for almost a year and a half now and still no baby. I did get pregnant last August that resulted in a very early miscarriage.  We still are trying. We want God's will in everything we do and find peace in knowing that its all in his timing. I think God is waiting for Gregory to be at a good spot in his life to handle having a new brother or sister. When he squeezed my friend's newborn's head (on her soft spots. MORTIFIED!) I am reminded of this. Ü

To have another or to not to?

When we had Gregory we had counselors at his metabolic clinic talk to us about having another, risks involved, tests that can be done to see if the baby in your belly has galactosemia and what you can do if it does (yowza! no way!), yada yada yada. Everyone has to make that decision. Here is where we stand:

We love Gregory.

We have a 1 in 4 chance of our next child having Galactosemia.

We have a 2 in 4 chance of our next child being a carrier like me and Tommy.

We have a 1 in 4 chance of our next child having nothing to do with it once so ever.

Low chances right? But Gregory has it.

What if its a girl? There are lots of yucky things that girls with Galactosemia go through. Is that fair for us to chance that? Just because we want to be selfish and have another child?

If the next child was like Gregory, would easier in some ways . . . Gregory wouldn't feel different. Making dinner. Easier. But are those things to trade for good health?

We feel content with just Gregory. But if you can have another, why wouldn't you? I think we would all benefit in the end. Don't think Gregory would be good as an only child. Or would he? What about when Tommy and are gone some day?

What to do? What to do?

We choose yes. We want another child God willing. God knows what we need and we find peace in that. In the mean time, we keep trying (not a terrible thing, right?). And then hopefully I'll be posting about Gregory's little sister or brother in the future. And if not, that's okay too.
